Titanium Dioxide (TiO2)
BackTitanium Dioxide (TiO2)
Titanium dioxide pigment can be found in virtually all paint formulations; it provides the required opacity to the coating. The European Commission classified TiO2 as a carcinogen by inhalation in 2020; the classification applies only to mixtures in powder form containing 1% or more of TiO2 which is in the form of incorporated in particles with aerodynamic diameter ≤ 10 µm.
This classification has no impact on the paints used in coil coating as they are used in the wet-form and not as powders. However, due to the potential for dust being created when cutting of sanding prepainted metals, care should be taken in these situations to avoid exposure.
